Less than a month of chocolate and cheese!
Better start stocking up....

First of all, I'd like to say CONGRATS to Lisa for getting accepted to UBC Med School! I'm very proud of you! Beer all around!

Beer's on me!

Back in April, Martina and I, along with Therese (Martina's Mom) visited the BEA -- an agricultural exhibition kind of like the PNE. They had animals and cheeses and wines and baked goods and yodelers. It was all quite exciting. It was Martina's birthday (May 5), so she stuffed herself with Oepfuchuechli (deep-fried apple slices with sugar and cinnamon -- YUM!), raclette (one of the many yummy types of Swiss cheese), Magebrot (soft, spiced, cookie-like baked things), wine and Gebrannte Mandeln (caramelized almonds).... Good times at the fair!

Therese and Martina: A toast to being 23!

Besides eating, we also posed on and beside various things:

(L) Martina on a quad; (M) Me beside a giant bottle of Appenzeller liqueur; (R) Me on a digger!

Last week, I went on a beautiful road ride along some obscure roads (marked as bike routes) through the hills. It was all rolling hills, past farms under a cold, grey sky (I haven't mentioned yet how the weather has been COLD and WET)! I rode to Fribourg, a very neat, old city in the French-speaking part of the country. I then called Sepp and Sonya and they picked me up and we drove to Gruyeres (yes, like the cheese), a little touristy town on top of a hill with a castle. There we ate fondue on the terrace along with hundreds (maybe thousands) of other tourists. It was a holiday. It was still very enjoyable, however. After all, I'm a tourist too! I took some neat pictures of the various houses in Gruyeres. It's kind of a "windows and doors" theme:

Boy of the Week

David the South African mountain bike racer! He's nice, hot, has an accent, rides a bike -- what else do you want? Poor guy had his bike stolen in Belgium, so I'm sure he'd appreciate donations....
