The Canada Cup was the only race of mine my parents watched this season. We made a fun weekend of it, driving up together on Thurdsay and staying in a condo. My parents did some hiking and I did some riding (and work).

The organizers had designed and built a brand new cross country course, which could have been good, but it was still a bit too fresh. What it really needed was a few months of riding and a bit of rain, as it was super dusty and loose and soft, so it was quite difficult. Racers felt like they were really bogged down most of the time, which was quite unfortunate, as the Masters World Championships were taking place on the same course, and I heard several complaints.

The race went okay. I tried to start aggressively and stay at the front, but I quickly realized I couldn't quite hold the pace at the front. So I pushed myself and tried to stay smooth. Martina Feldmann (BC, Fact Canada) passed me at the end of the climb and I stayed on her wheel for the rough descent. We had fun, whooping and yelling as we ripped down the dusty trail.

My legs just didn't feel very peppy though, so I just did my best to hang in and have a good time. Once again, I placed sixth. Six seems to be my number this year. I would like to change that to one some day....

It was great having my parents there cheering me on, and it's pretty much what redeemed the race for me. Oh yeah, the pizza afterwards was pretty good too. Mmm... pizza........
