So things have been rather exciting these days. After recovering from my lengthy bout with Giardiasis in May, I have managed (with the help of my humble coach Keith) to pull things together and race well. Very well, in fact.
This past weekend, I secured my third consecutive Canada Cup Series title (and my career fourth title) with a win at the final race of the 2014 series in Whistler. The following day, I captured my first ever Canadian National Championship Title at the Canadian Marathon XC Championships in Squamish. It was so awesome to be able to achieve this on my favourite trails in the whole world! It was a very long day in the saddle (4 hours and 20 minutes!), especially after racing the day before, but I was elated and extremely happy to be able to celebrate with some of my closest friends and teammates.
Big kudos to my fellow competitors who also took on the mega-double-header weekend of racing! It was great to share the podium with such talented riders. Congrats Cindy, Jean Ann, Amanda, Brandi, and Stacey on your strong seasons.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way with your cheers and support, especially Ken and Sally for hosting and feeding me this past week. I couldn’t do it without you!
I’m also pleased and honoured to announce that I have qualified to compete for Team Canada at the UCI World MTB Championships in Hafjell, Norway on September 6. You can tune in to watch the race live (probably at some crazy hour for those at home) or you can also watch the replay over a cup of coffee later in the day at www.redbull.com/bike or www.redbull.tv.
Be My Tailwind to Worlds… and Beyond!
I have also launched a crowd funding campaign through www.makeachamp.com to help fund my trip. This race is the most important one of the season and a strong result will secure me valuable funding through Sport Canada that could make the difference for me to get to the next level. After logging a career-best 13th at a World Cup earlier this month, I know I can do it! Please share, spread the word, and donate if you can at www.makeachamp.com/sandrawalter Thank you! Sandra
